Patricia Giraldo is a a microbiologist and registered nurse and also. She holds a master degree in epidemiology, and specializations in environmental health and environmental management and assessment.
Her passion for the art and her scientific background led her to develop the idea of bringing concepts of science to the art of metal embossing. Her creations combine a note of abstract art with the descriptive science, touching fields from microbiology to public health and environment. She currently works as a scientific evaluator and her spare time is dedicated to the embossing metal art.
In 2002, she designed her first science art work, the serie “Transformations” (four metal pieces describing the life cycle of the parasite Taenia solium), one of these artworks is in the Molecular Parasitology Laboratory at the University of Melbourne, Australia and the others in the Laboratory of Community Health Science at Brock University, Canada.
In 2004, she created “Interactions” a detailed structure of the West Nile virus interacting with one of its vectors, the Culex pipiens mosquito.
Her most productive art-work coming in recently years with “Solar Storm,” “Camouflage,” and the serie “Seasons,” a collection of four works which is in the non-governmental organization "IberoAmbiente Ciencia & Tecnologia" (a organization promoting environment protection and science-technology development) in Spain.
The most recently work is a tribute to the worldwide vaccination that consists in three metal art works: “Protection," already finished, " Damage" and "Production" which are sketched.
